Playlist of my Fakemon FireRed runs: • Fakemon FireRed I was asked by the creator, Pekin, to try out a beta version of an upcoming update to Fakemon FireRed. The hack's not publicly available, so this was an exclusive thing I was happy to take on. For those who don't know, Fakemon FireRed is a hack where the entire roster consist of Fakemons. It also has 2 new types, Cosmic and Digital. Along with Fairy, that brings the total to 20 types. There are some map edits and expanded areas, but the story progression is very much the same as regular FireRed. One of the biggest changes in this version is that there is a postgame challenge in Seven Island where you have to battle the Kanto Gym Leaders and then battle one more trainer. You have access to the bag, but you can't leave the challenge area until you lose or beat all the trainers. Well, I think you can use an escape rope or Dig. Another major change, I think the best one, is that the roster has expanded to the full Gen 3 National Dex count, which is 386. It was 200-something in the previous version. Such a change makes it viable to start over on doing the Monotypes. I did a Fairy run years ago, which was before I started recording my runs, so it's more acceptable to do another one. It was very feasible to do a 3-slot challenge for this as the difficulty is rather easy, at least for me. It would be easy to do certain battles, but RNG would mess me up, but that's just a common pet peeve with Pokemon. Another big change is an IV and EV changing service in the Indigo Plateau Pokemon Center. You can max out IVs for free. The EV changing is only for resetting stats to 0. It's not necessary to have competitive EVs since the AI doesn't have EVs. IVs are more important, especially with the E4 as they have 30s across the board. Nature's also important. There's no nature changing, but early routes have a mon with Synchronize and it always synchronizes the nature instead of the 50% in old generations. As this is a beta, there were quite a few bugs, which I reported to the developer. The postgame Gym Leader gauntlet was especially buggy as I had to interact with them in a certain way. Hopefully the bugs are ironed out and this gets a public release soon. The mechanics of the game are not really updated to current standards, probably because of the limitations of the ROM base. It's certainly a dated ROM base. For example, sleep turns can last longer than 3 turns, Double Battle mechanics are stuck in Gen 3, and there aren't any held items past Gen 4. It does have the Physical/Special split. Dated things aside, this is still a very enjoyable hack and ideal for Monotype runs. There are no complicated strategies in this video, a lot of setup sweeping. The music's from the Shantae series. Enjoy the video.
