Identify at a glance family burials where you have still to discover the family connection. I demonstrate how to do this in Family Historian 7 and compare some of the weaknesses in Rootsmagic. I love researching burial plot information and look forward to that "who on earth are they" discovery. Family burial plots are most often bought in response to a death. That burial may well be an elderly parent or grandparents but equally the unexpected death of an infant. Burials often span several generations and provide important clues to extended family. While addresses change over time and family names change through marriage the family burial plot remains the constant which associates those family members. Rather than being orphaned in the genealogy project sharing witness events keeps family associated through that family burial plot. Therefore the burial plot is a very important family history clue not to be overlooked. There are many ways the use of Shared Witness events bring family and close friends to your family history database. How often is a marriage witnessed by a sister under her married name which is unknown to the genealogy researcher? The best man is generally a significant family friend or possibly married into the family. What about those who or granted probate on a Will and then those who mentioned as beneficiaries of the Will. Those individuals are rarely strangers and all people the dedicated genealogist needs to research further. Family Historian 7 provides many ways to link and associate these individuals. I demonstrate the use of Shared Witness Facts but Association can also be used. A very real case study where individuals are associated through a common Shared experience or Place is the Enslaved and Enslaver possibly sharing a Plantation as a Place. All of these non blood yet very important family stories can be catered for in various ways using Family Historian 7.
