The Harley-Davidson X440T. This one has just 120 km on the odometer and was delivered only three days ago. I’m riding it properly for the first time after bringing it home, so I’m taking my time to understand it beyond the initial first-impression ride. First Start & Initial Feel The bike started cold at around 2000 RPM before settling down smoothly. From the first gear itself, the proportions and overall design feel muscular and well put together. Compared to the segment it comes from, this feels like a much more mature and refined product. There are small areas, like some visible wiring sections, where Hero and Harley India could have worked a little more neatly. The bash plate also doesn’t feel extremely strong and looks slightly flimsy. But overall, the build quality is definitely a step ahead of what we’ve seen earlier in this category. Engine & Torque The best part of this bike is its low-end torque. You don’t need to keep shifting gears constantly. Even in first gear, it pulls effortlessly. The torque delivery is strong and immediate. If you’re riding with a pillion, both rider and pillion need to get used to that acceleration because it kicks in quickly. The exhaust note is addictive. It feels punchy and aggressive, almost like small bursts going off when you open the throttle. Riding Feel & Comfort At around 70 km/h, I could feel slight vibrations on the handlebar, especially since I wasn’t wearing gloves. I deliberately avoided gloves to feel the raw feedback from the motorcycle. On my earlier short ride with gloves, I didn’t notice much. The power band is so usable that I didn’t even feel the need to go into 5th or 6th gear immediately. The bike feels relaxed at 70 km/h in 5th gear. The sweet spot seems to be between 70–90 km/h. Cornering gives a sense of weight. You can feel that it’s a heavier motorcycle, especially while leaning in. However, the suspension setup feels balanced. It’s not as long-travel as an ADV bike, obviously, but for a roadster that’s meant for highway touring, it feels well tuned. Braking During my first impression video, I mentioned that I didn’t feel a strong bite from the brakes. That was likely because the combined weight of rider, pillion, and bike was close to 350 kg. This time, riding solo, I could clearly feel the braking performance – and it’s actually pretty good. Heat & City Riding So far, I haven’t felt significant engine heat. However, since it’s a 400cc engine, some heat in city traffic is expected. Bigger engines naturally run warmer in stop-and-go conditions. Acceleration Tests I attempted a 0–60 km/h and 0–100 km/h pull. Since I don’t usually do timed launches professionally, the launch could have been better. Gear shifts could have been sharper. But overall, the performance feels strong and confident. Mileage & Range So far, the bike has delivered around 22 km/l. It has run approximately 130 km. With a 13-liter fuel tank, realistically you can expect a range of around 300–350 km depending on riding style. This was a more detailed ride compared to my first impression video. The Harley 440 feels muscular, torquey, and engaging. It’s not perfect, but it definitely has character.
