Hello Cellists! Today’s study describes itself as a rhythmical study. The meter is 5/4, but the rhythm itself is not tricky, rather the bow solution: each bar has a set of notes in the same direction of bow stroke. The question is how to execute these: as a series of small retakes, requiring quick wrist action in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction; or as a set of daisychained notes covering a small stretch of bow. I think that the latter solution is the most challenging for keeping control of the rhythm, although it would be a useful exercise to use the retake solution if you wish to develop that stamina. The key is D minor, and two registers are used: the lowest register at the heel (f), and the mid to high range in the middle of the bow (p).
