We wrote a song about Dolly Parton her birthday is January 19, 1946 a year and a half earlier than mine, I'm Bob I was a vocal coach and friend of his. She was going to perform that week with Kenny and they wanted to go over the show schedule and routine. Kenny said: let's work on "Islands in the Stream," and had the chart for it, and played for a little bit , but I noticed the song was very short, so suggested a bridge and a Pre-chorus to give more weight to the Chorus, which everybody knows by heart to day. anecdote: I remember she telling Kenny about when she put her high heeled shoes on the wrong seat, and she apologised and got her shoes back. She wrote a song called Jolene and she sang that at the request of Kenny besides "Islands..." at the Santa Barbara venue, the colliseum My memory is gone, my freind Rick Walk another resident has a photographic memory and reminds me of the songs about someone getting to close to her late husband -- Dean. "Dont' take my man away from me...." 1980 Jane Fonda encouraged her acting ability for the movie Nine to Five.. and with Burth Reynolds , Best Little Whorehouse in Texas... But her second love was Dollywood, in Sevierville, TN. I'm writing from the Armed Forces Retirement HOme, in Washington DC. Many residents here with me have been to Dollywood and they loved it. Most of her relatives I"m told work at Dollywood Park. And she made a movie called: Smokey Mountain Christmas. I believe that was a phenominal picture and another anecdote: She acquired a jeep after filming a show in california drove across country back to Smokey Mountain Home. and it's at Dollywood right now. She wrote songs about her humble beginnings in the Smokey Mountains. I cherish a Smokey Mountain Christmas. --Bob Santero This song is why Rick Walk and I want to invite Ms. Dolly Parton to visit us here at A-F-R-H The Armed Forces Retirement Home at 140 Rock Creek Church Road, Washington DC.
