If you need concept of domain from our day to day life, then function cab be defined as a machine, where we input our raw material and we get some different output. Everything is function all around us. Like in a mill, we input wheat or corn and we get out as flour. Exactly in mathematics,function acts like a mill, we input some numbers of variables and we get output something else. Let's say F(X) = x^2, this is also a function ans we read function as - f of x equals to x square. So. in this function if I am plugging x then I get squared by this machine. So, If I am putting , inserting any real number in this function, then it will give me the square of that number. If I am inserting -2 then my out put will be 4 . similarly if I am putting 100 in this function then I will get 10000. So, I mean to say, function acts just like a machine. There are few terms and symbols of function mathematics , we should understand. The element of domain are compared with objects as members of range are called images of the domain elements. Sometime even we say members of domain as pre-images. There are so many types of function, we will learn those types of function in our video lesson.
