Incoming tool recommendation: If you're tackling a similar project for the love of all that is holy (afternoon naps and sushi) get yourself a dowel centering jig. Make me smarter, drop a comment with your experience and top tips for building a wood countertop. This project started with a pile of pine 2x4s salvaged from a deck tear down. Beyond that the materials are straight forward: wood glue, 1/4" dowel or dowel pins and wood filler. Tools: table saw, miter saw, circular saw, drill and 1/4" bit, & ALL the clamps
