The EMD GP9 was once as common as the modern day power we see racing along the rails. These locomotives are hard to come these days, with most of them being built in the 1950s. If one knows where to look, you can still find these engines from a bygone era! We'll get a look at some former Soo Line GP9s, still clinging to life! Things start off in New Ulm, MN where a pair of former Soo Line GP9s are found outside of a grain elevator. What makes it even more interesting, is that these locomotives were once used for passenger trains! Now, they are awaiting an unknown fate, and the grain elevator has them for sale. We'll get a flashback to the Soo Line days, in 1985, and see what IMRL looked like when it was Soo 557. After checking these units out, we'll see another pair of former Soo GP9s working on the Nitrin Local in 2012. This was JUST before the units were sold off, and later cut up. Mixed in, are videos from Soo GP9s, and GP7s, screaming up Shoreham SMOKING, on the Sunday Extra Transfer. ALL video from Bob Rivard was used with permission!
