A longplay of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was developed and published by Sega in 1992. The story is about Sonic, a blue hedgehog renowned for his high speed, trying to stop his nemesis, the mad scientist Dr. Robotnik. Robotnik plans to use powerful artifacts called the Chaos Emeralds with his Death Egg space station for world domination. The game is a side-scrolling platformer with an emphasis on fast gameplay (hardware power and speed being one of Sega's selling points for the system). It includes the first appearance of the spin-dash maneuver, allowing the player to take off from a standstill to rocket through the stages' many looping obstacles and ramps- something that will become a staple for future games and Sonic's character. Responsive controls; vibrant, fluid environments; and memorable music made Sonic 2 one of the most popular games of its time and helped create a solid foundation for the series' legacy which continues today. --------------------------------------------- NOTES: ● I chose this game due to every other all-emerald longplay overusing Super Sonic. As Super Sonic, the levels go by too fast, the enemies are non-factors, and the music is extremely repetitive and the same for every level. It just makes for a very dull, unenjoyable run. ● I tried to take less popular routes, hoping to show parts of the stages not often seen by players. ● The Genesis is unable to process transparency like the SNES can, so it often replicates the effect with rapidly-blinking sprites. Unfortunately, this effect doesn't show up well on Youtube, so I eventually stop picking up the shield, allowing Sonic himself to be more visible.
