Solo Camping & 20-Mile Trek Around Waldo Lake, Oregon

A one night camping trip with a 20 mile hike around Waldo Lake in Oregon. This wasn't an easy hike, either physically or emotionally. With doubts and insecurities, mosquitos, heat and downed trees to climb over, this ended up being much more difficult than I expected. But I made the most of it and still enjoyed the camping trip as much as I could. Starting from Shadow Bay on an early summer day, I hiked along the shoreline trail past the campgrounds until I connected with a way trail that took me east to connect to the Jim Weaver Loop Trail #3590. I took a break at North Waldo Campground, dealt with a water filter issue and continued on in the heat. The loop trail took me to a night camping on the north side of the lake with 8 miles total the first day. An evening swim in Waldo Lake was quite refreshing! The second day, I continued on Jim Weaver Loop Trail heading south on the west side of the lake, with crazy pollen filled shoreline, enjoying lunch near Elbow Lake. With tiredness setting in, I skipped Klovdahl Bay and kept walking south to mountain views from the south end of the lake. Then I completed the hike back in Shadow Bay hungry and only a few mosquito bites. It was before trail had been cleared of trees, so I estimate 100-150 fallen trees I climbed over within the entire loop, a bonus challenge along the way.
