Phillip Sear plays a somewhat Schubertian study by the French/Lorrain composer Théodore Gouvy (1819 -- 1898). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Louis Théodore Gouvy (1819 -- 1898) was born of a French family in part of Lorraine that is now within Germany, and he spent his life between France and Germany. He was actually a lawyer, and independently wealthy, but still found time to write nine symphonies, and many other works. He was championed by Berlioz, but largely forgotten after his death - although there seems to be a revival of interest recently with new recordings of his symphonies and chamber music. The set of studies from which this piece comes bear no dedication, but were published in Berlin. The constantly changing harmonies, unexpected modulations, and the piano writing seem to show the influence of Schubert. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: piano4@psear.33mail.com WhatsApp: http://wa.me/441444483794 ) TikTok: / pianogems
