As SM Prime’s 88th mall in the country and the first in Ilocos Norte, this three-level complex spans over 51,000 square meters of gross leasable space, located just an 8-minute ride from Laoag City’s provincial capitol along Airport Road. In this tour, we’ll explore the mall’s beautifully designed interiors, inspired by Ilocos Norte’s natural beauty, such as the Kapurpurawan Rock Formation, Paoay Sand Dunes, and traditional inabel textile. You’ll see unique features like garlic-inspired chandeliers, a nod to Ilocos Norte’s title as the garlic capital of the Philippines, producing 76.51% of the country’s garlic in 2022, and the Dap-Ayan Park-inspired food court with lush greenery. The mall houses a mix of global and local brands, including SM Store, SM Supermarket, SM Cinema, Ace Hardware, Pet Express, Miniso, BDO, Levi’s, Adidas, and dining spots like Vikings, TGI Fridays, and Laoag’s own Sam’s Sugarcane. A highlight is the high-tech SM Cinema Laoag, featuring the first Laser projection and Dolby Atmos-equipped theaters in Ilocos Norte, with two Director’s Club theaters offering 44 luxurious recliner seats each and two Regular Cinemas with 109 seats each. Designed by architect Royal Pineda, SM City Laoag blends modern innovation with Ilocano culture through flowing curved ceilings and an elegant grand staircase at the atrium. Originally planned for a 2024 opening but delayed to 2025, likely due to tropical storms, the P2.4 billion project is expected to generate around 4,000 local jobs, boosting the economy of Ilocos Norte, a province known for its growing tourism and MICE potential. SM Prime is also exploring a complementary hotel development near the mall to tap into Laoag’s tourism boom. During the grand opening, the “Treasures of the North” exhibit showcased over 20 local micro, small, and medium enterprises, highlighting Ilocano crafts like basi wine, sukang Ilocos, and chichacorn. The mall’s Dap-Ayan Park, an Ilocano term for a community hangout space, features art installations like rock paintings, sculptures, and pinwheels, celebrating local heritage.
