Terminology Matters: Cultural Diversity of Transgender People in Asia Pacific

Join us as we explore the importance of using the right terminologies and expanding culturally sensitive knowledge about SOGIESC (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Expression, and Sex Characteristics) in Asia Pacific, particularly in relation to the health and well-being of transgender individuals. In this video, we will be discussing the common terminologies used in the region and how they can be empowering for transgender people depending on the individuals. We will also be highlighting the importance of expanding our knowledge on SOGIESC to ensure that healthcare providers can provide the best care possible for transgender individuals. We will be sharing insights from experts in the field, as well as personal stories from transgender individuals who have experienced both discrimination and acceptance in healthcare settings. We will also be introducing APTN’s Towards Transformative Healthcare (TTHM) Module, an introductory resource that aims to increase healthcare providers’ knowledge, attitudes, and skills on providing trans clinical and culturally competent care in Asia Pacific.
