Looking Back from the Future

The lyrics for this I wrote during the last 24 hours of FAWM, so I didn´t find time to put it to music. After FAWM ended, I was listening to some experiments I had done while learning to use my Xmas Present the Roland J-6 Sequencer/synth. I played one discarded piece and while listening to it I found myself singing the lyrics to this song. Then cut and pasted into Audacity and loped the piece, added 8 String Ukulele and did a MIDI Sax solo to round it off and give it some variation. Chords are just a repetition of C Bb F + Cm LYRICS: It was an odd time to be alive Mediocrity and liars back then thrived Old ideas resurfaced disguised as new Conquest and power once again grew Peace meant war, as Orwell foretold Young men off to die as in days of old Millions starved as things got worse "Interesting times" as said the old curse Millions more served a tiny few Who used their influence, as they do, To get folk to vote for big tax cuts Oh such fools, they must have been nuts! Ignoring warnings, they carried on Until arable land was dead or gone Half the world for humans was unfit When the climate crisis truly hit A decade later we were counted in millions Living a life like jungle Brazilians Rebuilding took centuries for those who survived It was certainly an odd time to be alive
