As a rule, I discourage stalkers. I don’t return their emails or phone calls, and I always alert the authorities whenever it becomes obvious that someone has developed an unhealthy obsession with me. Unless of course, they wear me down to the point where I have no choice but to meet them for lunch and invite them onto my podcast to discuss the reasons for their obsession. Which is pretty much what happened with this week’s guest. To be fair, Winn Claybaugh is more than a deranged fan with a dangerous fixation—he’s an accomplished entrepreneur, best-selling author, well-known philanthropist, and unapologetic momma’s boy who runs over a hundred Paul Mitchell Schools, where hundreds of thousands of aspiring barbers and cosmetologists have gone to learn how to cut hair. A few years ago, I encountered a 26-year-old smart-aleck with three jobs named Allyssa who cut my hair in North Carolina four years ago, which led to a number of local headlines immediately thereafter. https://bit.ly/CharlotteObserverArticle What you might not know is that our conversation in the barber chair persuaded me to open my work ethic scholarship program to aspiring cosmetologists, and that last year, that category was among the most popular vocations that mikeroweWORKS is currently proud to assist. Which is why Winn Claybaugh began stalking me. He just wanted to say thanks and tell me why he’s so proud of his students and the countless careers that have begun as the result of his national training program. Unsurprisingly, he’s a terrific guest with a powerful story and a great message, who I’m pleased to report is no longer the subject of a restraining order. And yes, the co-founder of America’s most renowned cosmetology school is bald as a cue ball.
