Jury Sees Notes Seized From Kouri Richins' Home After Murder Arrest

Kouri Richins was arrested on murder charges on May 8, 2023, 15 months after he husband, Eric Richins, died of a fentanyl overdose in their home in Kamas, Utah. Detectives searched the couple's home that day, and they seized an orange notebook from her bedroom in which Kouri wrote about the events surrounding her husband's death. I told her to come quick. The ambulance was here something is wrong wtih Eric. I was upset and crying still.” 07:01 “I told them (EMTs) I needed to call my father-in-law. They found my phone for me and I did. I just said something was wrong with Eric he needed to come over quick. I told him the ambulance was here but wasn’t breathing. The odd thing about when I had called Gene is, it was about 3:45 /4:00 am by this time and he had sounded so perky on the “hello” when he answered, almost like he was expecting my call. After he died, she self-published a children's book she authored titled "Are You With Me?" about coping with grief. Eric Richins, 39, was found dead in their home on March 4, 2022. Prosecutors allege Kouri dropped a lethal dose of fentanyl in a Moscow Mule cocktail she prepared for him. They say she was motivated by money because she owed nearly $5 million to lenders and had changed her husband's life insurance policies prior to his death while also taking out a home equity line of credit without his knowledge. She also was in a romantic relationship with another man. Her defense is that her husband died of a self-inflicted overdose and his family pressured police to implicate her.
