[3] The Olivet Discourse [Matt 24:1-14 - Part 1] - J Fourie

In this message, we commence our study in the Olivet discourse. This is a very unique and powerful portion of scripture regarding Jesus’s exhortation to His disciples as well as to those who will follow Him in the future. The Lord handles the destruction of the temple as prophet par excellence! Christ is not only the Messiah, the Son of God, and the Son of Man but He is also Prophet, Priest, and King. The disciples asked Jesus three important questions and the Lord and packs this throughout Matthew 24-25. He warns of many things including deception, false Christ’s [which will obviously lead to the Antichrist], wars and rumors of wars, nations rising against nations and kingdoms against kingdoms including that of famines, pestilences, and earthquakes. There is much that the Lord Jesus Christ is showing us as His followers in this portion and we need to heed the very earnest exhortation and prophecy by Christ that tribulation, hatred, and death may be a part of the Christ follower's life. It was true for the disciples, and it may be true for us. The Lord's name is a very powerful name, and it is a name that is hated among many. The signs are plentiful and false prophets will arise and lawlessness will abound, showing and proving that sin will be absolutely rampant in the last days. Jesus reminds the disciples and each and every one who will listen that we must endure to the end and He will save us. It is to have a great confidence and trust in the Lord and to act bravely in many circumstances to live calmly and to pursue the will of God. The gospel must be preached to all the nations testifying of Christ and then the end will come.
