Weekly Insights with Dom Barcellona 11/16/25: Hiring Practices Part 3 Concerns have been raised regarding changes to hiring standards within the sheriff’s office, as these adjustments impact public safety. There is also concern about the potential risks posed to corrections officers, deputies, and the community which could increase legal liabilities for the county (refer to the attached video for additional details). Additionally, questions remain about accountability measures for management staff and the criteria used for some promotions. It is common knowledge throughout the sheriff’s office that the sheriff often rewards poor conduct by management rather than holding them accountable. There are documented facts supporting these concerns. When elected as sheriff, I intend to restore rigorous hiring standards across all departments to ensure that only the most qualified individuals serve our community. Furthermore, I will implement clear policies to hold management accountable for decisions that affect public safety.
