Horror Month: Parasite Eve II, Part 1

Originally streamed Oct 19, 2023. The seventh proper annual "Horror Month." It's back to a variety of horror games from a variety of systems, including my first Dreamcast game onstream! The sequel to the masterpiece, Parasite Eve. They decided to take this game in a more Resident Evil style action direction, though it still has elements of Parasite Eve that make it feel like an interesting hybrid game. It's certainly a little bit more RPG than standard Resident Evil. Of course this game is not as good as Parasite Eve, but after all Parasite Eve is an unabashed masterpiece and up there among the best games ever made. Whereas this game is merely an excellent game. I think they did a great job executing this concept. The combat system is quite fun, visually the game looks terrific, and the soundtrack by Naoshi Mizuta (who did one of my all time favorite OSTs for FFXI!) is a very good soundtrack, and good follow up to the original. Well, of course it's nowhere near as good as the original's masterpiece level soundtrack that is seriously one of the best soundtracks ever made, but it's still very good. The game still has a similar atmosphere to the first game. Its really an excellent sequel that deserves to be played. Later on I will try out the even more controversial 3rd Birthday, and we'll see what I think of it!
