Windows 95 included some very awesome screensavers. A lot of them were updates to the ones that were a part of Windows 3.1. Along with the traditional Beziers and Flying Starfield, Flying Winlogos, and the Curves/Color Beziers, their were a lot of new screensavers that made use of OpenGL. They included Pipes, Scrolling Text, 3D Flower Box,3D Flying Object, and Maze. The Scrolling Text is quite basic. However, the 3D text really showed how the text could have a personality of it's own. Pipes is very basic, but yet cool as well, as the pipes can fly across the screen in any direction. Because these screensavers usually have extra properties, it's possible to define the attributes of the pipes even more, where they can look curvy. The 3D Flower Box and 3D Flying Objects Screensavers have various other properties that can define their appearance as well. The standout screensaver is Maze. Inspired by the FPS revolution caused by Doom; in Maze, you take to the maze first-person while looking for the end-point. Quite a simple explanation, but yet, the maze is anything but. The wall, floor, and ceiling textures can be defined. Because the mazes are autogenerated, one can have an infinite adventure. The thing is that even though these screensavers make use of the OpenGL graphics API, they are running in software mode. Thus, they will probably run like crap on a 486 system. However, a Pentium should be sufficient enough to support them. However, later third-party screensavers that made extensive use of OpenGL demanded a 3D accelerator. These screensavers help give Windows 95 its unique personality. 86Box is emulating a Multimedia PC with a Intel Advanced/ZP Motherboard with a Intel Pentium Processor running at 75MHz.
