Few people realize that Kings Canyon is America's deepest canyon! Kings is 8,200 feet deep and the Grand Canyon is a shallow 6,000 feet deep. And you can drive down into and camp at the bottom of the Kings. California also has the tallest mountain in the lower 48 states, Mt Whitney, and the deepest valley in the U.S., Owens Valley. We've backpacked to the top of Mt Whitney and won't be overlanding up there but expect a deep exploration of Owens Valley and the surrounding mountains in the future.
