JAPAN vs BRAZIL | HIGHLIGHTS | Men's VNL 2025. Japan loses in straight sets to tournament winner Brazil in the Men's Nations League! The Japan men's volleyball national team, ranked 6th in the FIVB world rankings (before the start of the match), faced off against Brazil, ranked 4th, and lost 0-3 (21-25, 23-25, 26-28), bringing their overall record to 7 wins and 4 losses. The first set started with a spike from Tomita Masama. After consecutive break points from Nishimoto Keigo's serve, Japan took the lead at 7-4. However, some combination errors allowed Brazil to reverse the score to 8-9. Japan struggled to get side-outs against Brazil's tenacious defense, even with their A passes. Consecutive service aces from Miyaura Kento put Japan two points behind, and the match progressed with both teams fighting for side-outs. Brazil's defense shone at key moments, forcing Japan to call a timeout at 19-23. In the end, Brazil's back attack was successful, and Japan lost the first set 21-25. In the second set, Brazil continued to take the lead. Their serve reception, which had been stable in this tournament, was disrupted, and they called for a timeout at 7-11. At 11-15, Kai Yuto was substituted for Takahashi Ai. When the score gap widened to 13-18, Nishiyama Taito and Oya Maki were substituted. Nishimoto's service ace made it 18-20, and Sato Shunichiro's block on Nishiyama's serve led to a break, bringing the score to one point. However, they were unable to score one more point, and Brazil took the second set in a row at 23-25. In the third set, Kai, Nishiyama, and Oya were used from the start. Sato made a block, and led the team on offense and defense with a quick and powerful spike, leading to a 10-8 lead. The side-outs were stable, and Brazil made some mistakes, leading to a timeout at 14-10. After the timeout, Nishiyama's spike broke the score and made it 15-10. However, from 17-13, Brazil's consecutive blocks made it 17-15. After that, they struggled with Brazil's powerful blocks and allowed them to reverse the score. When Brazil had a match point, Nishiyama's serve broke them down, forcing a spike-out to tie the score at 24-24. Nishimoto's block brought the score to deuce again at 25-24, but they lost the set 26-28 and lost the set 0-3. The Japanese men's national team will face the United States (ranked 5th) on Sunday the 20th.
