All instruments, arrangement, project management, visual concept and video editing: punktus – https://punktus.nu/ Vocals & song melody: Johannes Ljungberg. Lyrics: Mark Drake. Mix: Jens Lindell I got my initial inspiration for this song when I was listening to the song “What’s So Strange About Me” by Eight Dayz. Like many others, I heard this song the first time in the Santa Cruz skateboard movie “Wheels of Fire”. It's such a great song. I wanted to do something with a simple bass, digital drums and a big reverb guitar. I started playing three chords and came up with a structure and some guitars. I named the song “Strange Daze”. I contacted Mark Drake to write some lyrics to match the title, but I didn't let him hear the music. I just wanted him to play with the words daze & days and to reflect on the strange times we live in right now. Especially with the presidential election in his home country the USA, but also the world in general. As always, he did a great job. At first I thought I was going to sing it myself, but the music and lyrics turned out so well that I had to ask someone who can actually sing. I Asked Johannes Ljungberg. He came up with a much better melody than the one I had in mind, so we kept it. When we recorded his vocals we didn't see the overlap of the lines, but when I tried to cut the track I did. Instead of having weird overlaps, I added a few bars in the middle of each verse. That actually made the song a lot more interesting. I talked to Jens Lindell about mixing and he said he could give it a go. We talked about the sound and I tried to explain, even though I didn't really know what I wanted. Therefore the first mix wasn't what I expected, and I got a little upset since I couldn't explain what I wanted. But after a few days we talked about it and he gave it a new go. This time it was great. For the video I had many ideas. My dreams often grow into huge projects, so I knew I had to keep it simple. I filmed myself and Johannes at home. I asked Mark to send me links to videos I could use. The first version was too simple. I added the lyrics on top and it was better, but not good enough. And then it struck me. Everyone involved must be in the video, so Jens and Mark had to film themselves and send it to me. The whole thing with the dramatic red background turned out great.
