Music, project management, visual concept: punktus https://punktus.nu/ All instruments, vocals, video editing, music mixing and mastering: Damokles / damokles Lyrics & vocal melody: Mark Drake Photos & filming: Johan Lilja https://www.liljasfoto.se/ Original version: • punktus – Caesar (Original version) I (punktus) got the idea for the song and wrote the chords and structure while jogging in March 2017. A quick version was recorded the same night. I named it Caesar since it was inspired by The Caesars. Then I worked on some other music projects before I returned to this song and finished the music in late 2018. I contacted Mark Drake since he's good with words and I'm not. He wrote the lyrics based on the title and it took off in a new direction. The intension was that Mark should also sing. I had an idea for a dramatic video. Mark is telling his/the story. Nothing shown in the video should tell that it was filmed 2019. Timeless clothes and set in an environment with no modern references, lights, houses etc. The ocean and beaches represents reflecting and calmness and is also dramatic. To make it more interesting and dreamy I wanted smoke so I bought red smoke grenade. We picked the Fortuna Beach where Mark lives and I grew up. There are some steep hills that looks cool just beside the water. I wanted it filmed in one shot and to calm it even more it should be in slow motion. Even though the vocals was not recorded yet we set a date to film the video. Johan Lilja was contacted and we went to the beach on a cold January evening. Some great photos and some stumbling videos was captured. Mark was supposed to sing but he couldn't quite perform his ideas himself. After some time when the project didn’t have any progress and I really liked the song and the lyrics I had to find a way to move on. I asked Johannes Ljungberg who I work with in other music projects if he wanted to sing which he did. I gave him the lyrics and my music but none of us had heard Marks ideas for the vocal melody. Johannes came up with a melody for the vocals and we recorded him in my garage. When we were done we both felt that an additional female voice would fit the song great. I asked Frida Ekerlund and she was interested but very busy at the moment. So after a busy summer we finally could record her vocals and it turned out great. For mixing I asked Linus Hallner who I has helped me mixing in other projects. As always he did a great job. I was curious of how different the result was compared to Marks original melody that I hadn't heard yet. He sent it to me and I really liked it too even though it ha a different feeling. It made me think of Anders Ekström and his retro synth music so I asked if he wanted to do a version with Marks song melody. He agreed and pretty quick came up with this cool version. I wanted to have a video for the song but I felt that the material from the beach didn't work for the original song but great for this version. I did a quick video test but I wasn't satisfied. Anders said he could do it so I sent him the material and he fixed it. For the original song I had a new idea for a video. Persons trying to find their way roaming in the wilderness ending up together as the band playing the song. But since everyone has busy schedules only me and Johannes had the time to record it. Once again I contacted the always happy Johan Lilja. We setup a small studio in my living room for the closeups. Then we went outside my house where we danced in front of our cars with the smoke machine pumping in the background. We got some great photos and videos. I actually had quite a hard time to finish the video but at last I was satisfied. It has been a long project with many people involved but I’m very pleased with the results. Thank you everyone who has participated and helped!
