For hostel options in Bacalar there are really only two that everyone uses: Che and The Yak. Che is a chain throughout Mexico and its pretty nice. I did not go to the one in Bacalar because The Yak has everything that you need. I spent four nights 🌚 in Bacalar, all at The Yak. It's a really nice place, the beds 🛌 are decent and they have curtains. There is a small kitchen but nobody really cooks in hostels 🏨 in Mexico. There are activities every night, some nights a kayak trip during sunset, others a beer pong tournament, salsa dancing lessons in a group. The highlight of The Yak is the Neon 🦺 party every Wednesday night. It attracts the whole town (which is. nota big place), locals and backpackers alike. They wheel in a DJ 🧞‍♂️ stage, lights, speakers 🔊, bar booths, etc. When I was at the gym 🏋️‍♂️ in town, the guy working even asked me if I was going!! It's a great hostel, for about $30 US 💰 per night. The negatives are that it is quite difficult to meet people because of all the couples were come there. The music is constantly going so you will not fall asleep before midnight, it is near impossible. Also, if you buy food from them it is pretty expensive, $10+ per meal, which is a ton in Mexico. Lastly, the biggest plus of this place is the fact that it is really pretty and right on the water 🌊. There are cenotes right by the hostel, along with cafes where you can eat and swim.
