Sunset Peak is Hong Kong’s third highest mountain, and very accessible to hikers. The views and flora are stunning while you can also feel the sea of grass brushing against your legs. Stop 1: Pak Kung Au Begin your hike at Pak Kung Au between Lantau Peak and Sunset Peak. Trekking along the Lantau Trail toward Sunset Peak, be ready for a 2 km uphill climb. Luckily, much of the ascent is shaded. At the end, with only shrubs and tall grass along the trail, you’ll get panoramic views. Take the Bus no 3M/11 to get to Pak Kung Au from Tung Chung MTR. Stop 2: Sunset Peak The hike is a constant uphill climb. Definitely not for beginners. If you are someone who likes to take challenges then you will enjoy the trail. Atop Sunset Peak, sweeping views of bays and beaches open up to your right. Run your hand through the trailside Miscanthus or Silvergrass, a signature feature of Lantau’s high peaks. Stop 3: Lantau Mountain Camp Cresting the shoulder of the peak, savour the welcome breeze and stop for a moment at Lantau Mountain Camp to enjoy the old mountain huts dotted across the plateau below. They make the perfect backdrop for a picture, in late afternoon sun. Stop 4: Mui Wo After walking for about 6kms on the village path, you will arrive at Mui Wo, your destination. Things you must carry: 1. Food & Sufficient Water 2. Hiking sticks 3. A torch as it will get dark on your way back 4. Insect repellent 5. Wind jacket if you are going in winters You may choose to start from Mui Wo and end at Pak Kung Au as well.
