Sometime in the late '90s, before I had any real idea who I was, I brought my home video camcorder into work at KLCX 102.3 FM in Palm Springs, where I was "Duane" - both the Production Director and On-Air Talent for the 7p-12a shift. It was one of those “I guess I’ll film myself at work today?” moments that made perfect sense at the time and absolutely none now. I don’t remember why I recorded this. I don’t know who I thought I was talking to. Future fans? My imaginary documentary crew? No clue. What I do know is that I was a total nerd with big radio dreams, a camcorder, and a whole lot of unformed confidence trying to evolve. Watching it now, it feels like young me was reaching across time, trying to say “Hey… I’m figuring it out.” Cringe and charming in equal measure, this is a weird little VHS love letter from a kid still loading the software for who he’s about to become. Oh... and if you hear a light Southern accent randomly kick in, that’s from a stint I had just finished hosting a country music TV show on CMT called Video Country. The accent? Completely fake. The commitment? Unfortunately, very real! Enjoy!
