Mike Glover is a former Green Beret who has dedicated his life to teaching people about survival, preparedness, and self-defense. When it comes to knives as defensive weapons, he regards them as important tools — primarily a utility tool and a last-resort defensive tool. Most of the time, Glover says he prefers a solid folding knife that is primarily a utility blade for everyday tasks that can also double as a defensive weapon in a pinch. But like watches, he says, you shouldn’t limit yourself to just one. If you’re going hunting, overlanding, or into the backcountry, you might want a nimble fixed blade knife like the Montana Knife Company Speedgoat, or a more substantial bushcrafting knife.
