Gigue During lockdown I was feeling envious of how much Bach there is for pianists to play compared to string players. As Bach himself was a prolific recycler I decided to follow his example and arrange one of his keyboard Partitas for viola/cello. The Bb Partita seemed an unsuitable choice at first, but once transposed into D plus a bit of jiggling around it lay very well under the fingers. The Bb Keyboard Partita dates from 1725 and was Bach's first self published work, his opus 1. In the preface he describes it as 'Keyboard Practice, consisting of Preludes, Allemandes, Courantes, Sarabandes, Gigues, Minuets, and other Gallantries; prepared for the enjoyment of music lovers...'
