Wednesday the 6th of June was the day the last ever locomotive hauled weed spraying train was scheduled to run across the now disused South Wexford Railway line which closed in 2010. According to reports this is meant to be the final year of the loco hauled weed spray train as it's due to be replaced by the MPV vehicle number 790 next year. Also the South Wexford railway line is also on borrowed time too, the contract to maintain the line will expire in 2020, when this happens Irish Rail will no longer be obliged to maintain the line and the land in which the railway line sits on will be sold off with possibly the track being lifted in the process. Locomotive in charge of the weed sprayer was 071 class locomotive number 082.
