In this episode of Rise and Shine, we continue the story of David by reading through 1 Samuel chapters 18–20. After defeating Goliath, David quickly rises in favor with the people of Israel. Scripture tells us again and again that David was successful because the Lord was with him. But success and obedience didn’t mean life became easier. Instead, David begins facing jealousy, betrayal, and even attempts on his life from King Saul. These chapters remind us of an important truth: following God faithfully does not mean we will avoid hardship. Many times when things go wrong, our first instinct is to ask: “What did I do wrong?” But David’s story shows us that sometimes the opposition we face is not punishment — it’s simply part of walking with God in a broken world. Even in the midst of danger, God did not leave David alone. He sent him a loyal friend in Jonathan, whose friendship became a powerful example of encouragement, loyalty, and godly support. In this episode we talk about: Why David was successful in everything he did How God's presence is the true source of success Why obedience to God does not guarantee an easy path The danger of jealousy and comparison How God provides support through friendships The powerful covenant friendship between David and Jonathan Trusting God when life doesn’t make sense David’s life reminds us that God’s favor doesn’t always remove the battle — but He never abandons us in it. 📖 Scripture Covered 1 Samuel 18–20 Key themes: David’s success because the Lord was with him Saul’s jealousy and growing hostility Jonathan’s covenant friendship with David God’s faithfulness even in danger ✨ Main Takeaway Following God doesn’t mean life will always be easy.
