Episode 22 – Exploring the Hidden Side of Gilgit After reaching home safely in Gilgit City in the last episode, we thought it was time to slow down… But adventure doesn’t stop in the north — it simply changes direction. In this episode, we leave the comfort of home and set out to explore the less-known hidden gems of Gilgit itself. Our first destination: the breathtaking Kargah Nala Stream and the Fishery at Kargah Nala. The journey, however, was anything but simple. The moment we left the urban roads of Gilgit, the terrain transformed. We ventured deep into the valley, climbing rocky mountain tracks and facing serious off-roading challenges. Loose gravel, steep ascents, narrow paths carved into the mountainside — every meter tested our riding skills and our machine. This time, we made the smart call. Instead of the Yamaha R1, we rode the Power Sultan 250cc, whose lighter frame and maneuverability made conquering the rough terrain possible. What could have been a struggle became an adrenaline-filled mountain climb. After nearly an hour of intense riding, we finally reached Kargah Nala — and the contrast was unbelievable. Known for its powerful, roaring summer waters, the stream was calm and gentle during this season, allowing us to step inside and enjoy its refreshing flow. From there, we visited the Kargah Nala Fishery, where we learned how trout are farmed in the cold, mineral-rich waters of Gilgit’s mountain streams. It was a rare mix of adventure and education — off-road thrills followed by local insight. But this is only the beginning… We ended the day by heading toward another extreme destination — one that involves even tougher climbs and serious off-roading, which will be revealed in the next episode. 👉 Stay tuned. The real off-road challenge is just getting started. Kargah Nala (Kargah Valley & Stream) 📍 Geo Location: 35.9347° N, 74.2033° E Kargah Nala lies approximately 10–12 kilometers west of Gilgit City. The word “Nala” refers to a mountain stream or ravine. The valley is carved by glacial meltwater flowing from higher elevations of the Karakoram Range. During summer, the stream becomes extremely powerful due to glacier melt, often roaring through the narrow gorge with high intensity. In colder seasons, however, it transforms into a calm, crystal-clear flow, making it accessible and peaceful. Kargah is also historically significant because it is home to the ancient Kargah Buddha, a 7th-century rock carving that reflects the region’s Buddhist past before the spread of Islam. The presence of this carving indicates that Gilgit once played an important role in Buddhist cultural and trade networks. The road leading to Kargah Nala is partly paved but quickly transitions into rough mountain tracks, making it ideal for off-road enthusiasts. The steep climbs and loose terrain are a true test for riders. Fishery at Kargah Nala 📍 Approx Geo Location: Near 35.9347° N, 74.2033° E The Kargah Fishery is a trout farming facility supported by the cold, oxygen-rich waters of the mountain stream. Gilgit-Baltistan is famous for trout production because the region’s glacial water provides the ideal environment for species such as Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout. Trout farming was introduced during the British period and later expanded under government fisheries programs to promote sustainable aquaculture and boost local tourism. Visitors can observe breeding tanks, feeding systems, and fish growth cycles. Trout from this region is considered among the freshest and highest quality in Pakistan due to the mineral-rich, unpolluted water sources. Karakoram Mountain Region The broader region surrounding Gilgit and Kargah Valley is part of the Karakoram Mountain Range, one of the youngest and most rugged mountain systems in the world. Formed by the collision of tectonic plates millions of years ago, the landscape consists of sharp ridges, deep valleys, and glacial streams. The terrain is unstable and constantly evolving, which explains the rough and challenging off-road paths found in these hidden valleys. 👥 Shoutout To Viewers Watching From: 🇵🇰 Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Hyderabad, Faisalabad 🇮🇳 Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune 🇦🇪 Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi 🇸🇦 Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam 🇬🇧 London, Birmingham, Manchester 🇺🇸 New York, Houston, LA, Chicago …and all our riders worldwide 🌏 🎬 LIKE | COMMENT | SHARE | SUBSCRIBE 🔔 for more high-speed rides, motorcycle adventures, and thrilling night rides, so you don’t miss part 23 where we push further north into the heart of Gilgit-City! 👇 Let me know your favorite part of the ride!
