This was a first time experiment with some success, and some failures. My attempt was to create tools that can work ivory and bone from Wenatchee style Clovis core flakes I took from from previous videos. I go through everything and start at the beginning, trying not forget important details. I show the tool flakes transitioned into usable tools to be pitched into antler/bone handles. I show how to pitch them in and attempt to cut some Axis deer antler after the pitch cooled completely. Axis deer antler is very dense and closely simulates the type of density of limb bones used during the Wenatchee Clovis times. Unfortunately, all four ivory/bone cutting tools I created failed catastrophically. They broke from the back side of the tool which very much surprised me, as I assumed early on that any breaks would occur from the flat/front face of the flake. I am assuming that all tools broke because the handles weren't straight and the indirect impact of the hammer in reference to the tool bit caused a backwards bending force with enough shock to break the stone in two. Ah well....onto the next experiment - drills. #experimentalarchaeology #clovistools #wenatchee
