Happy Sunday, Church Family! Can you believe it is the last Sunday of 2025? What better way to enjoy the last Sunday of the year than today’s sermon, Celebrating God’s New Thing ? We were honored to welcome a very special guest preacher this week: Rev. Dr. Lee P. Washington from Reid Temple AME Church. Deriving from Isaiah 43.18–19 (NIV), we explore what it means to stop dwelling on the past and start perceiving the new thing God is doing in our lives today. Are your memories of yesterday blocking your vision of tomorrow? God is a present-tense God who provides new mercies every morning. Rev. Washington teaches us how to cancel captivity conversations and celebrate the miracles happening right now. Key Themes and Messages: Understanding the Major Prophets: Rev. Washington begins by clarifying that Isaiah is a major prophet not because of greater achievement, but because of the length and scope of his writings. Rev. Washington describes Isaiah as the eagle-eyed prophet who could see 750 years into the future with telescopic vision, prophesying the birth, suffering, and ultimate glory of Christ. The Power of Memory and Selective Amnesia: Rev. Washington explores the command to forget the former things. He clarifies that God is not asking for selective amnesia, as memory is a precious gift. Instead, the message is to not allow your yesterday to dominate your today to the point that you cannot see the miracle God is doing in your tomorrow. God is the God of the Present Tense: A central point is that God does not dwell in the past tense; He is a right now God. Rev. Washington encourages the congregation to: *Cancel Captivity Conversations: Stop talking like a victim just because your current context is difficult. Rev. Washington reminds us that while you may be in captivity, captivity doesn’t have to be in you. *Stay in the Present: God is constantly delivering new packages of life, mercies, and opportunities every 24 hours. When to Take Care and When to Let God Take Charge: Using the biblical examples of David’s new approach to fighting Goliath and Jesus turning water into wine, Rev. Washington illustrates that God delights in doing things in brand-new ways. He shares a personal story of a friend who survived a massive heart attack, using it to remind the audience to celebrate every new breath as a gift from God. Celebrating the Right Now: Rev. Washington reminds us to praise God for what He is doing at this moment. He emphasizes that God can heal, deliver, and save right now. He references the resurrection of Christ as the ultimate new thing that provides believers with a new name and a new hope. Weekly Takeaway: Don't let your history hold your destiny hostage. While our memories are gifts, God is a present-tense God who meets us in the here and now. This week, choose to silence captivity conversations and fix your eyes on the new mercies God is delivering today. God bless you as you step into your new thing. See you in the New Year!
