Full no-death/no miss run of Power Strike / Aleste ( アレスタ ) for the Sega Master System (SMS). This was captured from a JVC X'Eye using the Master System Converter II and the real cart. No emulation or cheats. Stage Listing: 00:00 - Intro 00:49 - Round 1 04:16 - Round 2 09:14 - Round 3 14:05 - Round 4 20:35 - Round 5 29:57 - Round 6 40:42 - Final Boss + Ending Power Strike (known as Aleste in Japan) is a vertically scrolling shmup developed by Compile for the Sega Master System / Sega Mk III. It was also released for the MSX computer in Japan (I will get to that version at some point as well). This marks the first game in the Aleste series, which has spanned many games and is even getting a new release later this year (or more likely next year). Aleste plays and feels a lot like it's predecessor Zanac, and is often considered to be a sort of "spiritual sequel" to that game. In many ways Aleste is actually a more simplified and streamlined version of Zanac, as it removes a lot of the cryptic features and secrets of that game. Depending on your preference this is either a positive improvement or a step backwards. I kind of prefer the deeper system in Zanac myself. As for items this time around you get both power chips (for your primary weapon) and special weapons which are numbered 1-8. You still have the carriers that come by at certain intervals and drop off helpful powerups for you. Once again you have to budget your "ammo" for the special weapons, and try to maintain picking up powerups of the same number in order to increase it's effectiveness. I tended to stick with weapon 7 as it not only cancels bullets but has a piercing attack. The main drawback is that it leaves you pretty much defenseless on the sides so you must try and destroy everything before it gets past you. I tried most of the other weapons at one point and in general I do find the weapon balance a lot better here than in Zanac, where it seemed like several of the weapons were useless. There are only 6 stages this time, but they are all fairly long and the intensity level of the game remains high throughout. In the final stage they really throw everything at you including all of the mini-bosses, enemies from literally all sides, falling tiles, etc. The game does struggle a bit with it's framerate and flickering when the screen gets filled up, but it doesn't ruin the experience. All said this is a fantastic game, and I highly recommend it, especially for those who enjoyed Zanac.
