Butterfly Y-Press Fins Key Items By this point, we should have a solid base with butterfly body position and a good feel for how the hips, chest, and head connect. Now we’re adding the next layer, the landing position. This is where swimmers start to understand how the arms and head work together when the hands reach the surface. We want to see the head slide just below the arms, the chest follow that line, and the hands push forward as the body presses down. In our previous progression, we used kickboards; it is now time to let those go. We’re still using a flutter kick here, not a dolphin kick, just enough energy to keep moving down the pool. Breathe when you need to. If you want to dial in the body line a little more, a snorkel is a great optional tool.
