Quiet Eye is the 3rd single off Sjå, Jeff Jahn's first album in over 25 years: https://jeffjahn.bandcamp.com/album/sj Video features Portland Oregon and Roman statues of the Emperors; Nero, Caligula and Commodus as a comment on totalitarian power in history and its rise in the present as well as its effects the court system. Quiet Eye is about keeping focused in the face of being baited and repeated attempts to incite Portlanders in order to instigate a crackdown. *(Postscript 1-3-2026 The Supreme Court has sided with Chicago in saying the National Guard is unnecessary. Portland turned the baited moment into an inflatable party to highlight the true ridiculousness of it all. In many ways it was Portland's ability to transform the optics into absurdity that did the trick and the National Guard has now been demobilized. Shortly thereafter ICE began a series of high profile shootings in Minneapolis and Portland, still this has not incited a violent reaction and Portland continues its mocking protests featuring a great deal of inflatable costumes.) All instruments, mixing and mastering performed by Jahn on completely improvised first takes using zero ai, beat quantization, samples or pitch correction, thus prioritizing and highlighting the human response. "Quiet Eye" is a term describing the way athletes calm and focus themselves in clutch situations. Jahn lives in Portland Oregon, a city which is being provoked by the Executive Branch at this moment... but instead of being "a warzone" the city defies provocation peacefully, denying escalation and falsehoods. Similarly, Quiet Eye is a song with a split but focused personality... both firm and peaceful (especially at its conclusion). In a way Quiet Eye is designed to tune stressors into focus for a moment in history like this. Portland is definitely not taking the bait. Jahn is also making the song available for free download to highlight what is and definitely isn't going on in Portland (it is not "burning") and the National Guard is not required.
