This stunning old farmhouse was built in a small cotton/ railroad town in the mid 1800’s down south. The house was built for a moderately successful farmer/ business man and his new bride just before the onset of the American civil war. The farmer owned a successful livery stable in town as well as a general store. After the civil war the town never had much of a resurgence and the population slowly dwindled away but the house remained in the same family until the last descendants moved away in the 1960’s for more job opportunities in bigger towns. From what I could find out the house never received any large updates and was kept mostly intact over the decades though sitting vacant. In the early 2000’s a restoration was planned but before coming to fruition the man passed away and the house has sat waiting patiently ever since. The owners of an excellent barbecue place next door keep an eye on the house and maintain the grounds. Best Brunswick stew I ever had. Hopefully someday this place can be saved and restored, so much beautiful woodwork and details inside. Loved the staircase and ornate mantels. Thanks for watching.
