But the al-Mahdi army has not been disbanded as they the authorities had wished. Every fighter has gone back to his province and the holy shrine has been handed back to the care of (Grand Ayatollah Ali) al-Sistani. Everything is back to normal, by the will of God." 8. Wide of people walking on the main street in front of the shrine STORYLINE: Followers of militant Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr left the Najaf's Imam Ali Shrine on Friday morning after three weeks of fighting with US and Iraqi troops. Sheik Ahmed Shaybani, Muqtada al-Sadr spokesman confirmed that the Mahdi Army of al-Sadr has left the city and laid down its weapons. "Everything is back to normal" he said adding that the shrine in now under Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani's office control. But he stressed that the Mahdi Army had not been dissolved.
