Congregational Church of Brookfield 4 th Sunday after Epiphany – Stewardship Season Kick Off Sunday, February 1, 2026 10:30am Prelude “Prelude from 24 Pieces de Fantasie” (Louis Vierne) Dr. Bryan Chuan Welcome, Announcements & Lighting Our Peace Candle Rev. Jennifer Whipple Call to Worship*** (Based on Matthew 5:1-12) Mark Lyon One: Blessed are we All: when our treasures cannot be quantified. One: Blessed are we All: when our knowledge is tempered by mystery. One: Blessed are we All: when our pain is held in the balm of love. One: Blessed are we All: when our delight comes from beyond ourselves. One: Blessed are we All: When we gather to learn, to grow, to serve, to worship. Prayer of Approach*** (Based on Psalm 15) and The Lord’s Prayer Holy One, as we gather, we long to grow closer to you – to be blessed, not by this world’s standards, but by yours. We long to be those who make right choices, who speak the truth in love, who are courageous in sharing your good news, who treat others well, who keep our word, who are generous with no strings attached, who are unshakeable in our trust in you. Forgive us for the moments when these longings are out of synch with the way we bring ourselves into your world. Help us to inch ever closer to you and to your way in this time and in the days you grant us. Send your Spirit of grace and direction upon us that we might be strengthened to live our faith, following Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray, [We use “Our Father” &“debts-debtors,” but please use whatever words bring you closest to the Holy One in a spirit of prayer.] Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Time With Our Children Wendy Elsen & Gabriella Maher (During the following hymn, we invite children in pre-K through grade 6 to leave with our teachers for Church School, or they may stay with their parents in worship. Youth in grades 7 and up are invited to remain in worship or to be helpful in assisting with our Church School today. Nursery care is always available.) Hymn “Gather Us In” 284 Scripture Reading Matthew 5:1-12 Mark Lyon Message “You Are Blessed” Rev. Jennifer Whipple Response Sharing our Joys & Concerns and Prayers of the Faithful Call to Share our Gifts** & Offerings Jim Chiavelli Offertory Anthem “The Beatitudes” Chancel & Children’s Choir Doxology “Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow” 46 Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise God all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. [We sing “Father, Son and Holy Ghost,” but if you prefer the more inclusive “Creator, Christ and Holy Ghost,” please use whatever words you prefer to praise our Trinitarian God, whose steadfast love endures forever.] Offertory Prayer (Based on Micah 6:8) Sprit of Generosity, we thank you for all the good gifts you offer us and for the opportunity to share some today. Bless these offerings that they may help us to follow your call to do justice, to love and share kindness, and to walk humbly with you and in service to others. Amen. Invitation to Holy Communion and The Peace One: As we approach this table, we give thanks for God’s abundant grace. All: As we celebrate Christ’s presence, may his love and light fill us with peace. Words of Institution, Prayer of Consecration and Sacrament of Communion All are invited to share in the sacrament – coming forward to gather the elements using the center aisle. We will receive the bread and cup together when we are all back in our seats. If you need or prefer to be served in your pew, please raise a hand and the elements will be brought out to you. (Note: To be inclusive of all, the recyclable plastic cups contain grape juice. Covered cups and rice crackers are for those who are gluten-intolerant.) Prayer of Thanksgiving O God, we thank you for calling us together in faith, and by this meal filling us with joy and hope. Grant that in the days ahead our lips which have sung your praises may speak the truth; our eyes which have seen your love may look with compassion on the needs of the world; our bodies which have received this bread and cup may be active in your service. Amen. Closing Hymn “Hope of the World” (vs. 1-4) 538 Benediction and Passing the Peace of Christ Postlude “March of the Three Kings” (Theodore Dubois) The high note you hear throughout the piece represents the Star of Bethlehem.
