Congregational Church of Brookfield 5 th Sunday after Epiphany – Souper Bowl of Caring Sunday, February 8, 2026 10:30am Prelude “Bergamasca” (Girolamo Frescobaldi) Dr. Bryan Chuan Welcome, Announcements & Lighting Our Peace Candle Rev. Jennifer Whipple Call to Worship*** (Based on Psalm 133:1) Mariann Schirizzo One: We come from different places and walks of life to worship here. All: How good it is to worship together in unity! One: We come with different joys and concerns, worries and wonderings. All: How good it is to worship together in unity! One: We come as unique individuals, bound together by the love of Christ. All: How good it is to worship together in unity! Prayer of Approach*** and The Lord’s Prayer Loving God, thank you for gathering us as your people – and for the gift of being together in community. Instead of recognizing that gift, we sometimes try to go it alone, lacking trust in you and your care – and in our ability to help others and be about your work. We pray your forgiveness for those times, and ask that you transform us through the power of your Spirit. Transform our hearts, that we may love generously; our eyes, that we may see your grace; our hands, that we may reach out with compassion; and our spirits that we may be the body of Christ gathered to worship and sent out to serve following the One who taught us to pray, [We use “Our Father” &“debts-debtors,” but please use whatever words bring you closest to the Holy One in a spirit of prayer.] Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Praise God all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. [We sing “Father, Son and Holy Ghost,” but if you prefer the more inclusive “Creator, Christ and Holy Ghost,” please use whatever words you prefer to praise our Trinitarian God, whose steadfast love endures forever.] Offertory Prayer*** Our hearts rise with thanks for your generosity, O God. Guide us now, as we share from the abundance of our joy. Give us the vision to use our blessings to offer hope to others – acting, sharing and praying in Christ’s name. Amen. Closing Hymn “God, You Give Us Recreation” (Carolyn Winfrey Gillette) God, you give us recreation, rest and play when work is through, Game and sport and celebration, times that challenge and renew. In the days we spend together, in the feasts that we prepare, In the times of joy and laughter, may we know your loving care. Bless, O Christ, our gifts of caring, for we know without a doubt: Soup and bread are made for sharing, hands are made for reaching out. Even in our times of playing, may we keep the vision clear: Keep us serving, loving, praying, welcoming your kingdom here.
