Itanagar, January 8, 2026 | newz o’clock The Drepung Gomang Arunachal Himalayan Monpa Buddhist Students Association has shared an update on the ongoing construction of a guest house and a prayer hall at Drepung Gomang Monastery, which has reached nearly 50 percent completion. Project Aims to Support Pilgrims The initiative is aimed at providing essential facilities for pilgrims visiting major Buddhist centres in the southern belt, including Drepung and Gaden Monasteries. The guest house, once completed, will offer free accommodation to pilgrims, especially those from Monyul, enabling them to conveniently visit multiple pilgrimage destinations. Long-Term Vision for Pilgrims According to the association, the vision goes beyond free lodging. In the future, pilgrims will also be provided free food and basic necessities. Monks of the monastery will engage with visitors by teaching Buddhism, offering educational guidance, and holding discussions on spiritual practices, traditional values, and Buddhist philosophy. Construction Status and Public Support The association stated that a significant amount of funds is still required to complete the remaining work. Donation campaigns are being carried out at various places, and substantial support has already been received from the Chief Minister, Members of the Legislative Assembly, Zilla Parishad Members, other public representatives, and the general public from Monyul. Appeal for Continued Support With construction nearing the halfway mark, the association appealed for continued generous public support. Once completed, the guest house and prayer hall are expected to become an important centre for pilgrimage, learning, and spiritual enrichment in the region.
