As a civil servant working for the town of Rotterdam, Vera looked out from the officewindow at the Coolsingel and she thought: "I must get out of this building, it's all happening out there." Vera is the project manager of "City initiative Rotterdam" and sees how civil initiatives can grow huge with a little bit of help of the beautiful city that arose from the ashes after World War II. The city where words are deeds. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
