Mrs. Sana Shams explores how artificial intelligence can support language diversity and digital inclusion. Drawing from her own experiences, she discusses building speech-based chatbots for citizen services and regional collaborations that made computing accessible in 11 local languages. Her talk highlights how AI, when used as a guiding tool rather than a replacement, can amplify unheard voices and support meaningful, people-centered innovation. Through real projects in Pakistan, she demonstrates how technology can be used to serve communities and promote inclusivity. Dr. Sana Shams is a Principal Manager Research at the Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science, University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, where she leads the Centre for Language Engineering. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Shams has worked on numerous national and international projects focusing on natural language processing, technology development, and research commercialization for languages of Pakistan and the developing world. Her research interests include language understanding and conversational systems—an area that has also been the focus of her doctoral research. Through her work, she is passionate about making technology more inclusive and accessible through language. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
