Cybersecurity is ultimately about control and responsibility, yet today many people and organizations blindly trust technology, fall for marketing promises, and surrender to both cyber criminals and Big Tech. True security comes from understanding systems, questioning assumptions, using transparent tools like Open Source software, and cultivating knowledge and discipline. We must take the helm of our digital lives, stay vigilant, and make conscious choices to protect our data and future. "Dr. Hermann Gumpp is the Managing Director of Enobyte GmbH, a Munich-based data protection and cybersecurity company, and serves as Special Advisor for Cybersecurity & Data Protection to the German-Japanese Business Association (DJW). He studied physics and computer science at LMU Munich, earned his PhD in biophysics, and spent many years as a Linux system administrator in the university’s computing center. Dr. Gumpp has worked in Japan as a consultant for large international corporation and at the National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Tokyo. He is a board member of the German-Japanese Society in Bavaria and leads the IT Working Group at DJW. He is also co-author of the Japanese Amazon bestseller “GDPR Guidebook,” one of the first publications on the EU General Data Protection Regulation in Japanese.
