Aurizon 2701 & 2702 Locomotives on first revenue coal train.

Aurizon 's new 2700 class locos are a rebuild program of the hugely successful 2300 class Maxi rebuild of the 1990's. The 2300s were a rebuild of several 1500 hp units with EMD 12 -645 roots blown prime movers fitted with turbos and new electronics. These units themselves are now getting old and the ageing engines are getting harder to maintain. So a trail was undertaken by Aurizon to replace the 12-645 prime movers with new EMD 8-710 engines. While being 4 cylinders down , the bigger bore gives them almost equal HP and newer engine controls and fuel savings. This is their first train since testing . Thanks to Chris for the heads up !
