13th & Loomis - How it came about: Late one evening in 1982, Bob Perna (my band leader) and I were sitting at his kitchen table in Schiller Park, Illinois. We were talking about new music we might want to create for the band. Bob recalled with great affection the kind of jazz he listened to in his youth -- tunes that featured what was (and still is) called "the Groove." With that in mind, we began brainstorming and soon came up with a basic melody and feel for a new tune. Using this musical theme, I went home and started writing an arrangement for the song, hoping it would reflect the bluesy jazz groove ideas we had discussed. After many rehearsals, the band was finally ready to go into the studio and lay down the track. Bob Perna named the song “13th and Loomis” – as an ode to an area in Chicago that he equated with “the Groove.” I hope you will love the result. -- Bob Samborski List of band members on this recording: Bob Perna - Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Co-composer Bob Samborski - Trombone, Co-composer, Arranger (solo at 2min, 0 sec) Frank Gualtieri - Trombone Larry Gianneschi - Alto Saxophone Don Loizzo - Keyboards Don Billow - Bass Guitar Hank Guaglianone - Drums Roel (Roy) Travino - Latin Percussion Copyright - 1982 by Bob Samborski and Bob Perna If you enjoy this performance, please 'Like" this video (give it a thumbs up) and Subscribe to my channel.
