Hello Amigas and Amigos🫡 Now this episode was fun and tough at the same time. We went to a traditional Portuguese restaurant in Pombal to try quite unknown food from this country. This dish is for hardcore foodies, because it's not pastel de nata, francesinha, or other beginner food. This is a proper test of your taste buds😁 So what Chanfana is?🤔 Chanfana is a traditional Portuguese dish, especially popular in the central regions of Portugal. It’s a slow-cooked stew made with goat meat (or lamb), marinated in red wine with garlic, onions, paprika, and spices. The meat is simmered for hours until it becomes tender and flavorful. It's typically served with rustic sides like potatoes, rice, or bread. You want to make it at home?🤣🤣🤣 Ingredients: • 1.5 to 2 kg of goat meat (or lamb) • 1 large onion, chopped • 4–5 cloves of garlic, minced • 2–3 tablespoons of olive oil • 1 bottle of red wine (750 ml) • 1 teaspoon of paprika • 1 teaspoon of cumin (optional) • 3–4 bay leaves • Salt and pepper to taste • Fresh parsley, chopped • Water (if needed) Good luck!!! Historically, it was invented as a way to cook tougher, older goats, which were not ideal for roasting or other cooking methods. Older goats were often tough and lean, so slow-cooking them in a flavorful stew with wine and spices helped tenderize the meat and make it more palatable. The use of goat meat was common in Central Portugal areas because goats were a reliable source of food in rural communities, where resources were more limited, and animals were raised for milk, meat, and wool. Over time, chanfana became a popular dish for special occasions, often served during festivals or family gatherings. The combination of wine and slow cooking helped turn an otherwise tough cut of meat into a rich, tender, and delicious dish that became a staple of the local cuisine. Well we are not very picky with food, but this Portuguese dish was on "tricky" part of the menu. Long story short, get to know Chanfana in this episode!😎🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹 Support our channel: / @millionplacesoneworld 👍 And see you next time!
