The Eclipse Self Instructor for Baritone Bass Clef by Paul deVille Published by Carl Fischer, New York, 1905. Here are seven short Exercises on Different Articulations, designed to be played one after the other, Page 28, Nos. 69-75. This 116 year-old text was gifted to me and I thought it might be fun to go through some of the exercises on my 100 year-old Conn double-bell euphonium. I'll be experimenting with transitioning from the large bell to the small bell throughout each exercise and focusing on the instrument's intonation tendencies. Many of these old double-bell euphoniums come with some horrendous intonation issues. One of the best ways to try to overcome these issues is to go back to the basics (pick up a beginning book such as this cool, old one) and just go through the exercises slowly and deliberately, listening intently to each note you play. For someone who has played for 20+ years on a Yamaha 642-S professional euphonium, the intonation issues are VERY apparent, but are something that could be mostly overcome by just getting to know the horn. If you are interested in this cool piece of old literature, check out my website! I will post a scanned document there. https://euphoniousmusic.com/euphonium...
