I hope everyone is having a wonderful day today as we celebrate Valentine's Day with something I thought would be fitting for this day. Orchid by Yukiko Nishimura is so beautifully written and the meaning behind this piece is really sweet and thoughtful. The piece was created and written in homage to Mr. Atsutada Otaka, the composer's mentor and teacher, who liked to grow orchids in his backyard. To me, this piece also has a big significance to me as well, as when I performed this piece with my high school, my classmates and I would always reference this piece to our director as we found him to also be a mentor of our own. I'm really glad that I got the chance to perform this piece for MPA, as well as for today. It feels like an honorary service to play something that has and will always bring meaning to the words "He was my mentor".
